Since her last solo exhibition at the Muse in 2016, Malgorzata (Gosia) Lapsa-Malawska has further explored ideas of capturing fragments of memories as semi-abstract landscapes, and condensing figures to silhouettes and shadows. 
 
Marks and textures are confined to their most essential, thus encapsulating the inevitability of transience, while keeping the process of stretching the canvas till last is a final homage to the beauty that lies in imperfection and deterioration.

Disappearing takes its name from a Haruki Murakami quote and offers the artist's visual interpretation of a simple thought ...

... Closing your eyes isn't going to change anything. Nothing is going to disappear just because you can't see what's going on.

Artist ( Description ): 

Malgorzata Lapsa-Malawska is a Polish born artist currently based in London. Extensively travelled across South America and Asia, her practice is rooted in the ‘Young Poland Movement’ and informed by the simplicity and subtlety at the core of Japanese aesthetics. 

Other Info: 

The Muse was established in 2003 as an artist-run gallery and studio. Now in its 15th year, the residency program constitutes an integral part of the gallery concept. Affiliated artists are supported beyond their residency and many are invited back to exhibit at the gallery.
