arebyte Gallery presents The Evolution of Ent-: QX by artists and physicist Libby Heaney.
The first 360˚ immersive installation in the UK using quantum computing as both medium and subject matter that explores parallel worlds, probing the futures of powerful new quantum computing systems.
The Evolution of Ent-: QX is positioned within the context of a fictional start-up company QX, (Quantum eXperience). Heaney uses the pseudo company to prompt the viewer to consider the future of new quantum technological developments and question how they may be utilised to extend current modes of surveillance capitalism and control.
The exhibition unfolds through the lens of the pseudo tech company QX and includes slimy walls, protruding limbs of quantum creatures, pulsating liquid worlds that shift and breathe and tentacle seating made in collaboration with Rosie Gibbens.

Libby Heaney is a British artist and lecturer who holds a PhD in Quantum Information Science from the University of Leeds and an MA in Art and Science from Central Saint Martins in London. She has exhibited widely in galleries and institutions in the UK and internationally.
As well as quantum computing, Heaney’s practice also incorporates AI and VR technologies, using each of these tools critically to investigate how and who they empower and disempower. Often Heaney’s work subverts the usual uses of these technologies, forcing them to work against themselves to expose their drawbacks and dangers. Inspired by Surrealism and Dadaism, Heaney’s work often incorporates humor and nonsense to investigate subjectivity, truth and perceptions of reality, as well as our seductive relationship with new technologies.
