A solo exhibition by British illustrator Molly Maine explores the evolving concept of 'home' in contemporary Japan through a series of digitally illustrated, limited-edition giclée prints. Drawing from her own experiences as a digital nomad who has traveled to over 50 countries since 2016, Maine investigates how Japan's traditional relationship with place is being transformed by globalisation, natural disasters, and remote work.

As Japan faces a declining population and encourages digital nomads to revitalise local economies, a new generation of Japanese people is moving beyond their ancestral hometowns—marking a significant shift in a society where generational ties to place have long been central. The exhibition contrasts these voluntary nomads with those forced to leave their homes by circumstances beyond their control, such as evacuees from the recent Noto earthquake.

Known for her bold, graphic artwork and evocative storytelling across publishing, editorial, and advertising, Maine brings her distinctive style to this complex narrative. Through interviews with digital nomads, Noto evacuees, and local communities, she captures the tension between Japan's deep-rooted traditions and its emerging mobile society.

The exhibition is sponsored by The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation, with part of the proceeds supporting Noto's earthquake recovery efforts.
