The Salon des Refusés is an annual exhibition of artworks rejected by the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Unlike its 19th Century predecessor, the London Salon aims to complement rather than criticise the main Summer Exhibition.
Now in its fifth year, the East London Salon des Refusés has become a highlight in the contemporary art calendar and provides artists with a unique opportunity to show and sell their works.
While artworks in the official Summer Exhibition undergo a rigurous selection process, the Salon des Refusés is open to all artists who can provide a rejection note from the Royal Academy. Visitors are invited to vote for their favourite artworks and winners of the public vote will be announced on the final day of the exhibition.
Previous salons included submissions by artists who have subsequently been shown at the RA while several artists have works included in concurrent shows. Most works on display are available for sale, providing collectors with an excellent opportunity to invest in emerging artists at affordable prices.
