The Brick Lane Gallery is thrilled to present CONTEMPORARY PAINTING a new exhibition showcasing different styles and approaches to painting. Today the landscape of contemporary painting is particularly strong and encompasses artists embracing abstraction as well as figuration as Korean artist Minjoo Kim and Paul Whitehead, whose small-scale canvases mirror traditional painting techniques depicting scenes of the urban life in London. Completely different are the abstract works of Klara Gunnlaugsdottir-Lucas and Ali Al-Ezzi, with bold colours, powerful brushstrokes and innovative painting technique, respectively inspired by nature and emotion, these two artists manage to create harmonious combination of colours and forms. Oscillating between figurative painting and abstraction are the works of Victoria Moschini and Natasha Mitchell with vivid colour palettes and surreal figures. Influenced by studies of film image composition and layers of photographical filters, Steve Martin depicts Californian inspired scenes. Painting is not only about creating images with paint and brushstrokes, but is also seen as a therapeutic action and as a conveyor of emotions and feelings. Joanne Lau’s positively charged paintings reflect on sentiments of love, joy and happiness. Similarly, South African artist Yegan Naidoo creates escapist scenes to inspire the viewers and provide a space for hope and de-stress from daily preoccupations. Another exhibiting artist, Hitham Said finds artistic inspiration from ideas of the subconscious and the soul.
