The Contemporary Art Modern Project is excited to welcome February with three new exhibitions running simultaneously from February 7th-28th.

Perspective has become a bloated word, laced with an optimism on the thought that should we see things from every angle, that the ensuing knowledge gained will solve all problems. However vast our knowledge and understanding, our sights are narrow, and the want to involve “the others” instead of just ourselves drains motivation dry.

On The Other Side is a discussion between two artists on accepting and empathizing with more than the self, and that the whole of a singular person becomes greater by peering through the eyes of another. Artists Khotan Fernandez and Seth Ellison omit this timidness in favor of what lies beyond the fence. A flavor not of envy, yet of a tonal shift past what defines a singular person, in favor of looking into the nuance of each individual identity. Through Khotan's third eye, he reexamines the self in fragility often discarded by the masculine through the form of sculptured assemblages and alien landscapes. And Seth Ellison envisions the other through a geometric and cartoonish-abstract reimagining of the rural American south.

On The Other Side is available for viewing in our North Miami gallery at 791-793 NE 125th St. from February 7–28 2025.

The Contemporary Art Modern Project (The CAMP Gallery)

The Contemporary Art Modern Project Gallery specializes is a contemporary art gallery dedicated to raising awareness for emerging and mid-career artists with a unique emphasis on ultra-contemporary approaches to textiles and fiber art. Founded during the height of the pandemic by Melanie Prapopoulos, the gallery has gone on to create a distinctly academic and thought-provoking arts program in North Miami, and beyond. As a gallery, The CAMP remains steadfast in transparency both for the artist and for the collector, building bridges and connections from creation to acquisition. With a robust local and international roster, the gallery represents artists working in textiles and fiber, painting, photography, sculpture, and installation. Looking at art, as a whole, through a reactionary and interdisciplinary approach, the gallery operates as a space wherein creativity and reality co-exist.

ABOUT KHOTAN FERNANDEZ (b. 1973, Mexican)
Khotan Fernandez uniquely portrays the experience of man, exploring – in the course of his mature approach of seeing, he has unflinchingly captured honest depictions of MIMO and the full array of human emotion. Khotan’s works are poetry, art, science, visual morsels all in one and are created to declare the truths of MIMO into every situation of our lives, a light to guide us through the desert.

Khotan also explores the human condition often through his animals, which can range from monkeys and gorillas to, flamingos and other residents of Florida’s wildlife – all the while drawing the viewer into an exploration of self. Fernandez does not just sketch and paint but also creates playful installations that continue his questioning of what it means to be part of the cosmos of this life.

ABOUT SETH ELLISON (b. 1984, American)
Seth D. Ellison is a Philadelphia-based painter and multimedia artist. He was born in Beckley, West Virginia in 1984, and lived mainly in the southern United States before moving to attend grad school. His formative years were spent compulsively drawing in preparation for a future career as a Walt Disney animator, a period in his life that deeply impacted the paintings he does today. Seth received his BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2009 and then an MFA from the University of the Arts in 2012, both with a concentration in painting and studio art. He has also studied graphic design at Concord University and was accepted into the SCAD Lacoste program. He has exhibited his work in Manhattan, Brooklyn, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Baltimore, among many other places.
