Already enjoying a steady flow of foot traffic, the new 5 Art Gallery will officially introduce itself to the LA art world on Thursday, May 17, with a grand opening reception from 6pm - 9pm. Founded by Parisian entrepreneurs and art collectors Jean-Jacques & Julie Darmon, 5 Art Gallery is premiering as the destination to discover artists from the French urban and street art scene. The current inventory features many never-before-seen works by BABS, Christophe Catelain, L'Atlas, Pro176, Richard Orlinski, Tanc, MonkeyBird, DON, Xare and Zenoy, as well as RISK, Coinslot and Russian-born artist Elena Bulatova’s vibrant candy sculptures.
Right at home in the heart of the trendy Melrose design district, and caddy-corner to Paul Smith, the selfie-capital of LA, 5 Art Gallery has been several years in the making, born from the duo’s growing passion for art and an inner knowing that Los Angeles was a place they could realize their dreams. LA is steeped in street art history, with cultural influences from around the globe colorfully graffitied on walls across the city – but French street art has been largely underrepresented.
“I grew up appreciating the abundant art, culture and beauty in my everyday life in France,” explains gallery co-founder Julie Darmon. “Los Angeles has become such an epicenter for eclectic street art styles, but the kind I saw in Paris is strangely missing from this landscape, even though it’s such a good fit.”
“Our overarching goal is to support French street artists whose work we personally admire—whose creativity has given us such a passion for the arts,” says Jean-Jacques Darmon. “This new adventure is a human one—we are the bridge between these amazing artists and LA’s fast-growing art scene.”
5 Art Gallery’s opening reception will be held on May 17, 2018 from 6pm - 9pm. Street parking is available. Please RSVP to gallery@5-art.com.
